Nine Years of Light: A Family’s Mission in the Heart of Kisumu
Greetings from Kenya, bathed in sunshine. For almost a decade, the Sydorchuk family, namely Vlada, has dedicated themselves to serving in Kisumu’s most impoverished sectors, diligently establishing a ministry based on presence, care, and hope via the Assistance Mission.
Her husband takes the lead in all technical and construction tasks. This includes repairing machinery, constructing religious buildings, developing the youth center, and maintaining the mission’s headquarters. Vlada herself volunteers at the local church, directing community outreach initiatives; she actively engages with vulnerable children, single mothers, and struggling families fighting to survive.
“I frequently reflect on the beds we’ve assisted in placing within simple mud dwellings,” she explains. “Or the communal kitchen providing nourishment to over 130 people on a daily basis. I remember the elderly and widows we aid with financial assistance for housing and medical requirements. I think of the students whose educational aspirations have transformed from mere fantasies into tangible opportunities.”
Every single one of these individual narratives tells a story that transcends mere figures—they embody lives, faces, and fervent prayers. Every story reflects the kind-heartedness of those who back this specific ministry.
Today, after years of consistent commitment, the Sydorchuk family is not acting independently, but they are supported by a devoted local team, consisting of men and women who have accepted Christ as their Lord and become unwavering followers of Jesus. Together, they’re working towards something permanent: not simply programs, but cultivating people.
“This is what becoming a disciple genuinely means,” Vlada states. “Elevating others, teaching them not only to serve, but to live with Christ at the heart of their lives.”
Vlada continues, emphasizing that backing this project is never exclusively financial. It’s choosing to stand with them—in prayer, in faith, and in a persistent belief that the light of Christ can touch even the most desolate places.
“We are deeply appreciative,” she affirms. “Your encouragement allows us to persist, to remain engaged, to show compassion, to construct, to believe. We feel your prayers and we treasure them.”
Because of every person who supports the missionaries in Kenya through IMOC, this family, coupled with their local team, can keep on fulfilling their vocation—bringing renewal to areas in the greatest need. This is the common goal: not just proclaiming the Word, but actively practicing it—in homes, where hunger exists, where healing is needed, and where hope can thrive.
