About the project:

The Pilgrim Charitable Foundation operates Ukraine’s largest rehabilitation project dedicated to adults and teenagers struggling with substance abuse. At the heart of this mission is the Republic Pilgrim Children’s Rehabilitation Center, where nearly 100 teenagers from the most challenging social backgrounds are in recovery today. These are children from the streets and shelters, the majority of whom face significant and often severe addiction issues.

Since its founding in February 2000, the center has helped over 4,000 teenagers, with more than 60% of them reunited with their families or placed in foster care. Many have found guardians, and some have been adopted into forever families.

Several years ago, Pilgrim launched a new project focused on family placement for children. To date, 12 family-style homes have been established, each providing a loving environment for up to 10 children. One home is dedicated to fostering children with HIV/AIDS, the first and only family-based home of its kind in the region. The vision for the next few years includes developing an entire village of family homes where children live with adoptive parents in a supportive community.

Alongside its work with youth, Pilgrim Foundation also runs a network of adult rehabilitation centers, with a presence in over 20 regions in Ukraine and Russia. These centers have helped thousands regain their lives from the grip of addiction. Currently, more than 300 individuals in advanced stages of dependency are undergoing rehabilitation in Pilgrim centers.

In 2011, this campaign evolved into "World Without Orphans", a global bike tour that continued through 2018. Pastor Mokhnenko, alongside his adopted sons, who were once street children, cycled around the world to promote family-based care, dispel myths about adoption, and raise global awareness for orphan care and prevention.
