Pastor Baraka and his family, amidst the grit and determination of Kisumu’s slums, minister steadfastly through the Assistance Mission. Alongside a committed crew of local missionaries, they shepherd a church that’s become a beacon of change—a place where children, young people, and adults experience the boundless love of God.

With the support of those backing this ministry through IMOCE, the church was planted in one of the city’s most struggling areas. It now stands as a living example of what God accomplishes when love takes hold in a broken place.

“We come together every week as a church—to worship, share Communion, and delve into the Word,” Baraka shares. “And week after week, we witness lives being transformed.”

Currently, over 250 adults attend Sunday services, along with many teenagers, youth, and children. Due to generous backing, the church now has a dedicated Sunday school classroom and spaces designed for younger attendees to be introduced to Scripture in engaging ways.

Throughout the week, the team manages specialized ministries for every age range:

80 youth

80 teenagers

170 pre-teens

250 children

Each gathering transcends mere meetings—it’s a lifeline, providing stability, spiritual development, and a sense of community within an environment where many grow up without a sense of hope.

Baraka also leads monthly men’s fellowships, bringing together local men to reflect, share, and grow in their faith. “We explore the meaning of being a man of God,” he clarifies. “How to lead families, disciple others, and live with integrity.”

Recently, he led a session for Year for God students centered on finances and poverty—a critical concern within the slums, where many young people have internalized poverty as an inescapable fate.

“I wanted to help them see a different truth,” he says. “That God’s Word speaks of hope, provision, and dignity. That poverty is not their destiny.”

Beyond his teaching and preaching, Baraka also meets with the church’s support team—those who clean, organize, and ensure that every service runs seamlessly. Most of them are young people discipled and empowered by the church to serve faithfully.

“We’re constructing more than just a congregation,” Baraka declares. “We’re cultivating disciples—people who love God, love their community, and believe that change is within reach.”

Thank you to all those who empower this ministry through your generosity and prayers. Your backing is not only forming a church—it’s transforming lives: grandmothers, fathers, children, and young leaders. Each person carries a unique narrative of transformation. At the heart of it all stands the Gospel of Jesus—the story that continually reshapes hearts.
