Youth Ministry and Evangelism in Kisumu, Kenya
Hello everyone!
My name is Sasha Syskova, and I serve full-time with Mission Assistance in Kisumu, Kenya. Over the past few weeks, we have seen God move powerfully in many different areas of ministry, especially among young people.
One of the most impactful moments was our evangelistic outreach at a maximum-security prison. Photos were not allowed, but the time we spent there was truly beautiful and powerful. Together with 15 young people from our Bible school, we shared the Gospel, prayed, and witnessed many people give their lives to Jesus. It was a deeply meaningful experience and a reminder that God’s love can reach people in any place and situation.
We have also continued holding youth ministry gatherings. It is encouraging to see how involved the young people are becoming. Some of them even create their own games for the meetings, which brings so much joy and energy to the group. Even when the lights go out, we keep going! The hunger for fellowship, worship, and God’s Word is greater than any challenge.
We are also working on building a new worship team for both the youth ministry and the church. These times are not only about musical practice — they are moments of deep fellowship, worship, sharing, and encouraging one another. It is especially beautiful to see young people, who face many struggles in their daily lives, find comfort and strength in the presence of the Lord.
During the school break, many young people returned from boarding schools, and it was wonderful to see familiar faces again. We also began a new teaching series about the words we speak. I noticed how common gossip, harsh words, and negative speech can be in the local culture, so we focused on this topic during our group time. The discussions were so meaningful that even when the meeting time was over, the youth asked for more time to continue.
We also presented a drama about gossip, which helped the message become even more practical and clear. In addition, we asked the youth to write down what prevents them from drawing closer to God. This opened the door for honest reflection and deeper conversations.
Our youth meetings are also a place where young people can receive tea and bread. For many of them, this is more than just a snack — they consider it food. Several youths have shared testimonies that they first came only because of the tea, but through the ministry, they encountered God and gave their lives to Jesus.
Serving young people here also means seeing their pain very closely. Many of the girls have experienced sexual assault, many youths live in very difficult conditions, and many come from families affected by alcoholism. Knowing their personal struggles makes my heart rejoice even more when I see them worship, pray, and find hope in the Lord.
Alongside youth ministry, I also continue to help with translation here at the mission. It is a blessing to be part of the work God is doing in Kenya.
Thank you so much for your support. Because of your prayers and generosity, many young people are being reached, encouraged, and touched by the love of God.
May God bless you abundantly!
