Hello everyone;
My name is Baraka and together with my wife; we serve as pastors at New Life church in the slums of Kapuothe in Kisumu, Kenya. We have been serving God and people in this are for about 2 years now and we have seen the light of Christ transform people in all ways.
We are grateful to IMOCE and all our partners for their continued support both spiritually and physically.
IMOCE has been part of us since we began and has stood with us even financially to ensure that people from this community and area have a place to worship the Living God.
I would love to share all we have been through and about from about a fortnight ago.
We are still living with the situation of floods in our area and this the situation escalated beyond unthinkable measures. Families have been forced to flee their homes and seek shelter elsewhere. Most of their houses are now literally under water and are unlivable. We have pity on them and sometimes we feel we are hand tied and can only do as much to help the situation. But we have been visiting and praying with our people even in the rescue shelters they stay. The shelter now holds about 120 individuals including children. We thank God that through our partners the church has been able to stand with our people by helping to find basic needs life food and clean water for them. We also try to keep the road to church in passable condition regardless; just so we are sure people will find access to the church too. We still trust God that the situation will get better and eventually people will get to lead their normal lives again. Continue standing with us in prayer.
Administration duties had me holding a consultation meeting with some of our people who work in the church as staff. This was a time to listen to their ideas and areas they were concerned about and needed improvement. It was also a time to touch base with their roles and duties as well as encourage them to keep up the work of serving people. We have a team that comprises security guards, kitchen staff, general staff and the church administrator.
We had prayer and revival evening last Friday. We get to spend time in prayer as a church and intercede on behalf of the church; pray for different areas and trust God for answers. Our main focus area in prayer this month is that God restores hope where hope has been lost: especially this time that our people are going through the floods. We believe God will make a way.
The feeding program at church continues to be one of the most impactful projects for the community at Kapuothe slums. It is great to see families being able to have at least a hot meal every evening. We serve about 126 people everyday; those children; fathers, grandmothers and fathers and mothers who cannot afford to put food on their tables now have a reason to smile. We are thankful to our partners and friends who stand with us in this noble task.
Regardless of the waters; our people still bravely wade the waters to attend Sunday service with great enthusiasm. It is satisfying to see people get through all odds to reach the church for service. Such was the case last Sunday and probably the Sundays to
Come.
Mother’s Day last Sunday was amazing. Our mothers were all gifted flowers and gift hampers and they had a special lunch together coupled with a great sermon. Our grandmothers also had a good day.
I had a couple of meeting with different people to counsel on different issues that arose including dispute thy needed amendments and persons that needed prayers. Great to serve people as their pastor and at individual level too.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support. We love you guys and thank you for being part of us in very many different ways. May God keep you.
