Bringing Hope to the Community: Ministry in the Slums
IMOC, in partnership with Mission Assistance, continues to empower local churches and bring hope to communities in need. My name is Baraka, and together with my family, we serve as pastors in our local church. We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive—both financially and through prayers—from IMOC and all our partners. Your generosity has helped us build our church and provided us with a platform to reach the unreached with the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Over the past few weeks, we have witnessed both challenges and blessings. We thank God for the return of the rains, though our community is now facing the risk of flooding due to the rising river levels. Please keep us in your prayers as we hope to avoid displacement and further hardships.
Every Sunday, our church is filled with people who are hungry and thirsty for God. It’s a joy to serve them and teach the Word of God. The impact of the church is undeniable—countless families in our slum community have experienced transformation through our ministry. The church has truly become a beacon of hope.
Our children’s and youth ministries continue to be vital outreach avenues, reaching a wide demographic within the community. We currently serve:
300 children
180 pre-teens
80 teenagers
80 young adults
Each ministry meets weekly with structured programs focused on worship, prayer, and the Word of God. Last Sunday, we had the special opportunity to bless our grandmothers and grandfathers with gifts as a token of appreciation.
I also continue to lead one-on-one Biblical discipleship classes, where we explore what it truly means to be a disciple of Christ. These close-up sessions have been incredibly effective, as participants share personal testimonies of how Jesus is transforming their lives.
Beyond spiritual nourishment, we are also grateful for our feeding program, which provides 140 meals daily to some of the most vulnerable members of our community—abandoned grandmothers, single mothers, orphaned children, and elderly grandfathers. This initiative not only ensures they receive a meal each day but has also created employment opportunities for young people who serve as chefs, enabling them to earn a living while giving back to their community.
We cannot thank you enough for your prayers and support. Because of you, we have been able to build a sanctuary in the slums—a place where people desperately need Jesus. Your generosity is changing lives, and we are forever grateful.
May God bless you abundantly!
