Supporting missionaries in Kenya 10/11/2024
Greetings from the Equator!
Natasha has been serving with the “Sodeystvie” mission in Kenya for over seven years. She shares the latest news from the mission field with great enthusiasm. Every Saturday, Natasha and her team gather for pre-teens ministry meetings to plan Wednesday services. These meetings also serve as an opportunity to support one another, grow spiritually, and pray together.
Natasha expresses deep gratitude to IMOCE and every partner who supports their ministry. Many of the children come to their Wednesday services, drawn by a warm cup of tea and a bun. However, they receive much more than just a snack; they are blessed with the opportunity to hear about Jesus, learn the Gospel, read the Bible together, and grow in prayer and worship.
This social ministry, through hot meals, shows the children love and care, making them more receptive to the Word of God. The team tries to alternate between full meals and snacks. Currently, they serve one hot meal followed by snacks three times a week—such as cocoa and a bun, tea and samosas, or porridge and bananas. The snacks are also very nutritious. The children were especially delighted with cupcakes last Wednesday, which are a rare treat, usually reserved for special occasions. Natasha thanks all who bring such joy to the slums, turning even the simplest moments into celebrations.
At the start of the pre-teens meetings, they engage the children with fun games and competitions. This time, they had Bible trivia questions, and almost every child eagerly raised their hand to answer—testament to their year-long lessons on the Old Testament. Natasha then shared the Parable of the Sower from Mark 4, encouraging the children to reflect on the type of “soil” they represent.
In addition, there are prayer groups where pre-teens, led by a mentor, visit homes and pray for people. Two years ago, after visiting a friend’s family to pray for their mother, the children informed Natasha that the family desperately needed help. The team provided them with food and prayed again, inviting the mother to church. At the time, the family was in a dire situation—five children living in a 2×2 meter room, with no bed or mattress. They continued to bless the family, and over time, saw amazing transformation. The father, who had been absent, returned home. Last Sunday, the couple got married, and the mother is now a regular churchgoer. Recently, the team found people willing to help with rent, and the family moved into a larger house, complete with beds and essential items for the home.
Natasha also spent time preparing videos and photos for reports to sponsors, as she will soon need to send updates. Today was a holiday in Kenya, so the children stayed home. The team decided to bless them with pizza and spent the entire day together, enjoying fellowship.
Natasha is sincerely grateful to each one of you, as together, they are able to spread love and share the message of Jesus and the Good News in various corners of the world.
May God bless each of you abundantly!
