Supporting missionaries in Kenya 07/18/2024
Greeting everyone
My name is Baraka and together with my wife we are pastors of New Life Church in the slums of Kapuothe in Kisumu Kenya.
We continue to be thankful to everyone who has and is standing with us in support and partnership in different ways and also in prayers. We are grateful to IMOCE and Mr Anatoly for financial support and partnership with us in our church projects. We are also grateful for the support on church building too.
The church has been a pillar of light and beacon of hope to many surrounding us. We have testimonies of the transformation that the church has initiated in our community both physically and also spiritually.
I would love to share some of the undertaking I have been up to in the last couple of weeks with respect to my pastoral responsibilities. We are grateful that we are able to meet up every Sunday for our services in the sanctuary. The floods have almost completely seceded and we are grateful to God. We have had tremendous spiritual awakening during our services and worship meetings. We have seen God deliver people and also heal the sick in our congregation. We continue to trust God for even more of His move in the community through the church.
I have been meeting groups of young disciples in Christ to teach them and take them through a deeper meaning of The Word of God and scripture. As a church we believe that if one can influence three or four then there will be exponential growth in the number of disciples of Christ that we make. That is our vision and mission as a church. To make disciples.
We are grateful to our partners and those who support us since as a church we have been able to have some of our members work for the church. This is a great empowerment to our people even as people around generally experience unemployment. So Last week we had a staff meeting for the guys who help us run the daily church activities. We encourage one another as servants of God and of people; as we also talk about better ways and ideas of handling different areas of work within the Church.
I also got an opportunity to visit some of our members who fellowship with us in their houses; to pray with them and to get to know how they are doing in life. Most of our congregation come from the slum around and surrounding slums too; most of them live basic lives with some of them being unable to even cater for their daily needs. We get to visit them so as to encourage them, and also bless them with a food basket.
This week was not so easy for us when we visited the house of one of the single mothers who comes to our church. She lives in the neighboring slum area. Unfortunately her 3 year old daughter got molested by a neighbor and it has been tough with her. Medication has been so expensive for her to cater for and she has been unable to follow up on a legal case regarding the incidence due to lack of funds and legal fees too.
Nonetheless we continue to pray with her and support her in whichever way we can and also pray for the woman to find peace in her heart. Help us stand with her in prayer too.
This week I also found time to meet up with the young people and the youth who help us in our ministries in church; because of the numbers of children and pre teens we have in Church; we often have young guys volunteer to help during the ministries.
This time I was encouraging them to continue working for God and serving people. Also prayed for their needs too.
We also had week of prayer and fasting in church and last Friday we had a great revival worship evening. Time to pray for our partners, supporters, church, government and nation at large.
Last Sunday we honored our grandmothers and grandmothers after service with lunch to appreciate them as part of our congregation. We later prayed together with them for health, healing and strength. They are a blessing to our church and we love to have them around.
We continue to be grateful to IMOCE for supporting our feeding program. We feed about 126 individuals every single day. Most of them grandmothers and fathers, single parents and those who cannot afford even a meal a day. This project has blessed the hearts of many and our only hope is that we reach even more people. Thank you
