Social Ministry in Dunga Beach: Care, Education, and Support for the Needy
“Greetings from our social ministry team at the church in Dunga slums! Our days are incredibly busy!” — shares missionary Vlada Sydorchuk about her ministry in Kenya.
This month, the team has been actively welcoming guests and missionary groups, which has led to a significant increase in ministry partners.
“Thanks to visitors who shared about us on social media, we have received a great influx of new partners! This has allowed us to enroll even more children in school, purchase essential school supplies, provide food assistance, and offer one-time home support with necessary items,” she says.
Celebrating First Birthdays & Feeding the Hungry
The team continues to visit children and give them their first-ever birthday celebration.
“Here, birthdays are not celebrated, and many parents can barely recall their child’s birth date. Most often, people congratulate themselves and take a selfie. But we strive to notice people, remember them, and show love,” Vlada explains.
Every day, the church provides meals for the hungry.
“In the slums, there is always someone who is starving. Many people here live without documents, without education, and without any form of protection. They work from sunrise to sunset for just one dollar a day and cannot even provide food for their entire family. That’s why we are so happy to serve our village with a hot dinner every day,” she shares.
The team also cares for the elderly by visiting them at home and bringing food packages.
“At first, food seemed like a strange gift to me. But here, where life is so challenging, food is the most common and appreciated present—even on special occasions! That’s why, when we visit our elderly, we try to bring joy and a sense of celebration into their homes,” says the missionary.
Behind the Scenes: Daily Challenges & Community Support
“Behind the scenes, there’s so much happening: we are repairing the kitchen, fixing the quad bike that delivers food, mending beds, welcoming mission guests, training local leaders, raising children, and trying to spend time with our families and rest,” Vlada adds.
But what she cherishes the most in her work is seeing God move powerfully through the ministry.
“The thing I continue to be most proud of is Jesus! He is moving so mightily here! He loves this mission and working with His children!”
Finally, Vlada expresses deep gratitude to those who support the ministry:
“Thank you for supporting missionaries! Because of your help, we can work for the Lord. And every effort that reaches people in need is also your reward!”
