Missionary work in Kenya by missionary Baraka
Hello and greetings from us.
My name is Baraka and together with my wife we serve as pastors at our local church in one of the slums of Kisumu in Kenya. Our sincere gratitude to IMOCE and all who have supported us to establish a church in this community. Thank you to everyone who supports us financially; prays for us always and partners with us in different ways. We have seen great changes in the lives of the people we serve. The church has indeed become a centre of transformation and a beacon of hope to the community. You have helped us not only to meet people’s physical needs but we have also been able to speak to their spiritual needs by preaching the hope in Jesus and the message of salvation. On behalf of my family and my people; we say thank you.
I will share with you what I have been up to for about a couple of weeks .
It was so good and fulfilling to have our brother Anatoliy visit us once again and be with us for about a week. We are so blessed to have had him. It was great to serve people with him here in the slums and also to listen to his heart and what God put in him for us.
Over the week we visited a number of families form our community; the people who we serve and those who we pastor. Besides the hopelessness that we sometimes witness when we visit these families; we always see a speck of hope that is brought by knowing Jesus. We thank God that we are able to meet some physical needs of these people we are with but it is even more fulfilling when we pray with them and encourage them in the Lord. Thank you to all who make these visits possible.
We had a great and wonderful medical camp last weekend at our local church. About 400 individuals came for the free medical camp and were able to see the doctor and receive medicine and treatment.
Sadly, The fact that there was this many people in the camp also means that so many of our people are sick at home and are unable to cater for medical needs at our available hospitals. The healthcare system doesn’t accommodate especially those who have nothing. So many just end up sickling silently at home. Most of them are unable to afford even a dollar to use as transport to get to the nearest medical facility; and even if they do get there; they can afford very little for medicine or even treatment.
These camps means so much to our people, from the old to the young children.
These camps also are our evangelism avenues; opportunity to speak and encourage people in Jesus. We prayed with them too; so apart from just physical healing; we prayed for spiritual healing too.
Concurrent with the medical camp; we also hosted the happy hour session for children and pre teens. Amazing to see how much fun and laughter these kids afforded that day. Thank you to all who made this possible and put a smile on the kids faces too.
Once again we are grateful to IMOCE for partnering with us and supporting our feeding program at church. The fact that families don’t need to sleep hungry anymore is such a huge blessing to us. We see life and joy on peoples faces because of your support and partnership.
A grandmother or an orphan is no longer sleeping on an empty stomach because of your support. Furthermore we are able to continue speaking life in their lives and preaching Jesus to them; he who is the hope of glory.
As one of my pastoral duties; I continue to meet people for discipleship classes and for marriage counseling. Soon we will have baptism classes starting for those in church who are ready to be baptized.
We are thankful to God that apart from preaching Jesus from the pulpit; we also have the grace to make disciples too.
Our church construction is more than halfway done by now; two rooms are nearly fully ready for functioning. Great thank you for all who support us financially to build our church and a centre of hope for people around us.
Thanks you once again to IMOCE and all partners, friends, sponsors and support us who pray with us and who support us in every way there is. We are blest know you; we keep you in our prayers too. Thank you for empowering us to be able to preach the gospel and teach about Jesus to the people in our community and beyond and for standing with the church which has become a source of light to many around. May God bless you and keep you.
