Between Fear and Hope: Bread for Ukraine
Another week has drifted away, lost to the ages…
And once again, our team, dedicated to the bread ministry, turns to our cherished friends and allies with hearts brimming with thankfulness.
Amidst the restless nights and the haunting wail of air raid sirens, Ukrainians strive not just to endure — but to embrace life, to serve God and those around them. This is not a learned behavior. It’s a matter of the soul.
One cannot simply acclimatize to the atrocities that have woven themselves into the fabric of daily life here.
Undeterred by persistent shelling, incessant alarms, and devastating explosions, our ministry perseveres. Bread continues to be baked — for those scarred by the war and its repercussions.
It is currently Sunday evening. The nocturnal crew at the bakery has already commenced their work, as in the morning, the volunteers will arrive. They will transport the bread eastward into Ukraine, where people will be given both: sustenance for the body and nourishment for the spirit.
As we pen these words, the air raid siren erupts once more…
A wave of Shahed drones is hurtling towards the Kyiv region and further.
“Lord, You witness everything. Bestow Your mercy upon us.
You have the power to cease this devastating war.”
We also lift our voices in prayer for those who labor on behalf of the Ukrainian people — even from distant lands.
May God bestow upon you abundant blessings for your kindness and empathy.
And tonight, even as the alarms echo, we are grateful for the opportunity to encompass you in our prayers.
