A Neighbor Finds Jesus and Youth Step Into Ministry in Kisumu
Greetings from Kisumu, Kenya. Here, the ministry of Mission Assistance continues to touch lives in ways both deeply personal and far-reaching.
Sasha Syskova, who serves full-time in Kisumu, shared about a moment that reminded the team once again how God’s love reaches even the most unexpected places. During a hospital visit, Sasha met David—a neighbor who had lost his leg. He had never attended church, but after receiving prayer and encouragement, something stirred in his heart. Weeks later, David walked into church on his own and, in the middle of the sermon, came forward to repent and receive Jesus. Today, he continues receiving treatment for his leg while also finding healing and hope in Christ.
The ministry has also been caring for Sara, a young girl struggling with ulcers and convulsions. After several hospital visits, she is now doing better. Collins, another young man under the team’s care, continues with physiotherapy and wound treatment while being supported spiritually through fellowship and prayer.
Beyond medical care, the ministry invests deeply in the next generation. Sasha leads youth discipleship, raising up young leaders such as Sharon, who is now mentoring others. Iveria, a high school student, has even brought her school project to life under the moonlight, testifying to the passion of young believers here.
Visitation remains one of the most meaningful ministries—going house to house, sharing encouragement, praying, and fellowshipping with families. Recently, the leaders gathered for a retreat on the theme of “The Love of the Father,” a time of renewal and team building. The team also joined a partner church for a conference, where Sasha led a heartfelt girls’ talk session. Questions flowed honestly, and the space became one of healing and openness. Inspired by this, the team has now begun separate talks for both girls and boys, with guest speaker Teddy ministering to the young men.
Adding to the joy, the new class of Year For God students has just begun their journey, committing to a year of ministry training and service through June of next year.
Through every hospital visit, youth meeting, and church service, God’s hand is seen in Kisumu. Sasha and the Mission Assistance team express deep gratitude: “We thank God for your heart, your trust, and your support. Know that we pray for your ministries, your lives, and your families.”
