A Church of Hope in Kisumu’s Slums
In the heart of Kisumu’s slum community, a small church has become a place of light, prayer, and daily bread. Pastor Baraka, together with his wife and son, faithfully serves here — shepherding people who live with deep struggles, yet also with deep hunger for God.
Last week, their ministry held a youth camp that brought together young people from their church and other congregations across the city. It was a time of worship, prayer, and Bible teaching, mixed with games and sports that filled the grounds with laughter. Many youths experienced the Holy Spirit’s touch, deliverance, and personal discipleship through God’s Word.
On Sundays, the church gathers around 250 adults, along with teenagers and children, for fellowship, worship, and the preaching of Scripture. This past week, Pastor Baraka continued his sermon series on 1 and 2 Peter, teaching on how to remain faithful as Christians. Slowly but surely, hearts are opening, and God’s Word is taking root in this community.
Beyond the spiritual nourishment, the church also sustains lives through a daily feeding program. More than 140 people — many of them widows, orphans, elderly, and single mothers — receive a hot meal each day. For many, this is the only meal they can count on. The program has also provided work for those who prepare the food, giving dignity and stability to families.
Pastor Baraka shares with deep gratitude: “We are thankful to God and to everyone who partners with us. Because of your support, no vulnerable person in our community has to go to bed hungry. Lives are being transformed — one life at a time.”
This church stands as a testimony of what happens when faith is lived out in action. Every prayer, every gift, every act of support is felt tangibly in Kisumu’s slums.
We join Baraka’s family and the church community in saying thank you to all who continue to support the mission through IMOC. Your generosity is not just providing meals and a place to gather — it is bringing hope, faith, and transformation where it is most needed.
