Victoria School successfully completed its second academic year, followed by a brief holiday break.

On Monday, January 6, 2025, we joyfully welcomed students back as we commenced our third academic year. However, this holiday season brought not only preparations for the new term but also two tragic losses that deeply impacted our community.

In early December, we lost 12-year-old Loyanae Lokwam to kala-azar, a parasitic disease common in desert regions. This illness causes spleen enlargement, anemia, and requires prolonged treatment with specialized injections. Unfortunately, the lack of nearby healthcare facilities and essential medicines made it difficult for her to access the care she needed. Loyanae was a loving child who brought warmth and kindness to everyone around her, leaving behind cherished memories.

Another tragedy struck two weeks ago in Luwai, near Nakurio, when Ramsey Ewaar Ewoiyarot, a student in our preparatory class, lost his life in a house collapse. Ramsey, born on November 17, 2020, was from a large family of Mr. Ezekiel Ekeru and Mrs. Priscilla Akaru Ewoiyarot. The collapsed wall caused fatal internal injuries and a fractured leg, and he passed away on-site due to severe bleeding. His body remains in the LRCH morgue as preparations for the funeral continue.

These heartbreaking losses remind us of the importance of providing support and education to local communities. Ramsey’s family urgently needs approximately $2,000 to rebuild their home, ensuring their large family and the orphans they shelter have a safe place to live.

We pray for the families grieving these losses and ask God to grant them strength during this difficult time.

Despite these challenges, we are hopeful that this academic year will bring not only obstacles but also opportunities for growth and development. We extend our gratitude to everyone supporting us and wish peace and blessings to all our students and their families.

Exciting News: A New School in Turkana

We are thrilled to announce the opening of a new school in the Turkana desert region. Kanyuda School is located in central Turkana, 30 kilometers from Victoria School and about three hours from Lodwar. This is the first educational institution in the area, where no schools previously existed.

Life in Turkana is extremely challenging, with no access to water supply, healthcare, proper roads, or other basic services. Residents travel 15 kilometers one way to fetch water. We are praying for God’s provision to drill a borehole nearby. Meanwhile, we must transport water by vehicle to provide meals for the students, which incurs significant fuel costs.

Kanyuda School will begin with 62 students, though we anticipate more enrollments in January as families recognize the value of education. We experienced a similar pattern with Victoria School during its initial days, where families brought children—even infants—for the meals provided alongside education.

The greatest need for Kanyuda School remains water supply, which is essential for maintaining a basic standard of care for the children and staff. While this poses a financial challenge, we are committed to ensuring these children have the resources they need to thrive.

We are overjoyed to bring education to such remote and underserved areas. We believe that Kanyuda School will be a place where children can gain knowledge, experience care, and discover God’s love.

Thank You for Your Support

We are deeply grateful to all who support our mission. Your contributions make it possible to change the lives of children in even the most remote corners of the world. Together, we can bring hope and opportunity where it’s needed most.

May God bless this new project and everyone who plays a part in it!
