Supporting missionaries in Kenya 08/08/2024
Greeting everyone.
My name is Baraka and together with my family we serve as pastors. Our church is in one of the slums in Kisumu, Kenya.
This is where we serve the people and the community generally. Our church which was built and supported in partnership with IMOCE has become a centre of hope for the community. We have seen the power of God work through to transform the community from the very many set backs people here have lived with over the years.
I would love to share with you what I have been up to and how I have been serving for a couple of weeks that have passed.
To begin I would like to love to express gratitude and thanksgiving to all those who have supported us and continue to support our church in any way.
Every days for about a year now we have been feeding the vulnerable groups of people in the community under one of our projects, Feeding Program.
Most of the people we serve are grandmothers and grandfathers, single mothers and widows as well as orphans.
In this project we feed dinner to about 130 people every single day. This ensures that they do not sleep hungry as is the circumstances in the slums. People here are not as privileged to access even a meal a day. This project has become a great avenue for us to be able to speak Jesus and preach the gospel to those who we interact with.
We are again grateful to those who support this noble move financially, And even through prayer. May God bless you.
Church is doing great. We thank God for the movement of discipleship that we are currently in. Our mission is to raise disciples for Christ one man/woman at a time. People who will be able to influence and disciple other people too. Our Sunday services have been impactful avenues where the word of God is spoken to the people. We currently serve about 250 adults who worship with us every Sunday morning. We still pray for healing and salvation for the many people who are still to be reached.
During the week , other groups of people also meet. Our main ministries and vision is based on also serving the kids, pre teens, teens and the youth.
Over the weeks I have had one on one meetings with discipleship group leaders. We share our hearts out on what God has done for us but I the same time use my gift in Christ to sharpen them and make them effective makers of disciples too.
I also had a meeting with the ushers team. We spoke about being of service on God’s house and how effective they should be. This is also a time to encourage them to keep on. I have also hosted meetings with different individuals from church over different issues that can be summarized as matters affecting our spiritual walk with Jesus. I can testify that God’s still working .
We had an amazing time with Men from the church during the Men’s breakfast meeting. The topic for our discussion was Family and how a man can prove effective when it comes to the stability of the family.
In these slum areas; most fathers are absent for very many reasons; and this has reflected on the fact that families have been broken. We desire men who carry the heart of Christ. Men who live God and serve their family.
Thank you for your immense support in buldingour church. Thank you for your financial support to me too. I am grateful.. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that Jesus is preached even to the deepest of slum dwellings. We are grateful beyond description.
Continue keeping us in your prayers too.
This week we just had a powerful Youth conference. Worship and prayers, teaching and discipleship, As well as games too were all part of the conference events. We witnessed healing, deliverance and salvation. We thank God for the young people and the testimonies that were made.
