Hope in Kisumu
In the heart of Kisumu, where many families live in overcrowded informal settlements, quiet faithfulness continues to change children’s futures. Through the Assistance Mission, Katya serves as the leader of the Child Sponsorship project — a ministry that opens the door to education for boys and girls who would otherwise remain outside the classroom.
For many parents in the slums, daily survival comes first: finding food, paying rent, keeping a roof over their heads. School fees often become an impossible burden. Through the Child Sponsorship project, children receive the opportunity to study, grow, and dream beyond their current circumstances. Katya also oversees the mission’s finances and carries medical ministry responsibilities, ensuring that both practical and urgent needs are addressed with care and accountability.
This month brought many opportunities to visit families with food packages and beds. These were not just deliveries of material support, but moments of presence — sitting together, listening, praying for specific needs. In homes where resources are scarce, even a simple bed restores dignity and comfort.
A particularly significant visit took place in an orphanage in Molo. Each trip there requires emotional strength. The stories of the children are not easy to carry. Yet each time, the team returns with renewed conviction that love must be present in places of deep pain. For Katya, serving these children is not a duty — it is a calling to reflect Christ’s compassion in tangible ways.
Last week, a strategic meeting was held with the mission leadership to evaluate the direction of the ministry and clarify priorities for the coming season. Careful planning ensures that support remains sustainable and focused on long-term impact.
Meanwhile, daily work at the Sponsorship office continues steadily. Behind every sponsored child stands a team handling documentation, communication, financial reporting, and coordination. It is quiet, consistent work that builds trust between families on the ground and those who support the ministry from afar.
This ministry in Kenya continues because of the faithful support of sponsors who stand behind it. Through their generosity, children remain in school, families receive practical help, and the love of Christ is made visible in real and personal ways. May God bless everyone who continues to support this service through IMOC and multiply the seeds they sow in every area of their lives.
