Christmas in Kenya: Serving Children and Foster Families with the Hope of Christ
This Christmas season in Kenya was marked by gratitude, quiet perseverance, and deep meaning. As the team celebrated the birth of Christ, the focus remained on those entrusted to their care — children and families whose lives continue to be shaped by consistent presence and faithful service.
What once began as a children’s shelter has now entered a new chapter. The ministry has transitioned into serving eight foster families who are caring for children formerly living at Papa’s House. This shift has not ended the closeness of relationships. Meetings with both parents and children continue regularly, with an intentional commitment to walk alongside them, support them, and prepare together for the new school year. Much of the work happens behind the scenes: financial reports, planning, presentations, and careful preparation — all part of building a sustainable future for these families.
In the weeks leading up to Christmas, a major outreach took place in the slums of Kisumu. By God’s grace and through the support of sponsors, 3,000 Christmas gifts were collected, purchased, packed, and distributed to children. Alongside this, the team prepared church decorations and intentionally involved young leaders, sharing skills and responsibility so that they can confidently continue this work in the future.
The Christmas period also included long nights familiar to many missionaries. Costumes were sewn for a Christmas drama, rehearsals continued late, and preparations were made for large gatherings. One of the central moments of the season was a special evangelistic meeting for preteens. Nearly 500 children attended — more than usual — filling the space beyond capacity. Through a carefully prepared drama, the children were introduced not only to the story of Jesus’ birth, but to the reason He came.
The program did not end at the manger. It led the children to understand Christ’s purpose, His sacrifice, and His love. During the gathering, the Word of God was shared, worship followed, and the children were invited to come forward if they desired to know God more deeply. Many responded to this call. The evening concluded with a shared meal of rice and chicken, and hundreds of gifts finding their way into small hands.
This season was made possible through the faithful support of those who stand with the ministry — through every donation given and every prayer lifted. Because of that support, the team is able to serve, to remain present, and to walk together with the people of Kenya in hope and faith.
