Missionary work in Kenya by missionary Baraka
Greetings everyone
I am Baraka and together with my wife and son we serve as pastors in our local church in Kisumu, Kenya
Our church as you probably are aware is located in one of the largest slums in the city.
We are grateful to brother Anatoliy and IMOCE and everyone who supports our church and helped build it too. Thank you for your prayers, financial support and partnership. We are grateful.
I will share with you what I have been up to in the last couple of weeks or so and also give an update of what’s happening in Church currently.
Praise God that we are now in the final stages of finishing construction in our church. Great news is that in a couple of weeks all the work will be finished. We are so much thankful to all who supported with finances to help us finish the rooms that remained. Soon our young kids and toddlers will have a kids room where they can be during Sunday services and they can be taught the word of God. We will also have a meeting room and common space too that is capable of accommodating our sports ministry kids.
About two weeks ago I shared in the men’s fellowship meeting. We hold this special meeting for the men in church once every month. I spoke of the importance of the man being the priest of the family and being able to bring family to God. Through these forums we are able to speak to men to be more responsible for their families and encourage them to remain steadfast in faith in Christ.
I also hold meetings and teaching sessions with different groups in church. Last week I had such with the worship team of the church. We had a day’s retreat and bonding time too. I also used the time to speak and teach about true worship and remind them that God needs worshippers. Also spoke on the importance of praise and worship in church
A few weeks back I was invited as speaker in a youth conference held in one of the missionary churches in Kitale. It was a great and powerful time. I had a chance to speak about the indescribable nature of God and also took time to mentor young people. I held teaching sessions for the young men to speak about the issues surrounding them. It was good seeing the responses of these young people and their hunger and thirst for the things of God. I was honored to have served them too.
In line with mentorship; it was also a great time seeing one of the young men I disciple and mentor graduate as a professional a few days back. His story is a great testimony. He came to us as a student of our youth mentorship program and Bible school from a distant city. He has never had to go back because through time God has established him as a great worshiper and music leader in our church. It. is great to see how God is not only expanding these young people for His Kingdom but also in their personal growth and careers. All glory to God.
I am currently preparing and meeting with individuals from our church for baptism classes. Most of them young people who have their lives to Christ soon and have shown zeal to also be baptized in water.
We continue to teach and preach the gospel of Christ. Our desire is to selves transformed not only from the outside but also from the inside. That Christ will deliver people from bondages and curses too.
We still meet every Sunday for our regular services and also our church prayer meetings regardless of the prevailing weather. These service usually has about 250 adults attending.
We also have kids ministry, teens ministry , pre teens ministry and the youth ministry that cumulatively also serve about 600 people.
We are now in the Christmas season and we have programs laid to share the joy of Christmas with everyone and to remind ourselves that Jesus Is the reason we celebrate.
Once again thank you to everyone who supports our church in any way and for the support that we receive as a family too. Thank you for keeping us active in the field of harvest for the kingdom of God. God is working through us and through the church to bring more and more people into the knowledge of Christ. May you be blessed and Merry Christmas.
