Growing as a Church: Discipleship, Prayer, and Lives Transformed in Kenya
In the heart of a Kenyan community, a local church continues to grow as a place of faith, hope, and practical care. Week by week, people of all ages gather to worship, learn, pray, and support one another—discovering a living relationship with Jesus Christ and finding strength for everyday life.
The church is led by Pastor Baraka and his wife, who serve faithfully among their community. With the support of IMOCE and committed partners, the church was established and continues to serve consistently. This support makes it possible to reach people not only within the local slum community but also beyond it.
Today, around 800 people are served every week through Sunday services, age-specific ministries, and social programs. Children, preteens, teenagers, youth, adults, and the elderly are all part of the church’s life. Each Sunday gathering includes praise, worship, prayer, and teaching from the Word of God, with a clear desire to help people grow in understanding, faith, and a personal walk with Jesus.
Alongside the main services, weekly ministries for children, preteens, teens, and youth continue to nurture spiritual growth at every stage of life. In this new season, the church has placed a strong focus on discipleship, deeper engagement with Scripture, and the development of a strong prayer life among all members.
Over recent weeks, special attention has been given to preparing new believers for water baptism. Through personal meetings, teaching, and prayer, those who registered were guided to better understand their faith and the meaning of baptism in the Christian life. This journey led to a powerful baptism Sunday, when 18 people publicly declared their faith through water baptism, witnessed by the entire church community.
Practical care remains an important part of the church’s calling. Each month, food bags are distributed to elderly members of the congregation, helping meet basic needs for those who often struggle to provide for themselves. In addition, the church gathers for biweekly prayer meetings on the first and third Fridays of each month, creating space for mutual encouragement and intercession for the wider church. Twice a week, prayer room sessions are also held, allowing individuals to spend focused time with God in prayer, worship, and reflection on His Word.
Recently, the church community came together to support a single mother from the congregation whose home was destroyed by fire. Through the help of friends and partners, most of what she lost was replaced. The visit became a moment of encouragement, shared prayer, and tangible care for her and her children.
This ministry continues because of faithful prayer and generous support. Every contribution—financial or spiritual—strengthens the church’s ability to serve God and people, bringing hope, restoration, and lasting change to the community.
