Give education to child from the Turkana Desert, Kenya
In 2022, we started building the Victoria School deep in the Turkana Desert, Kenya. The Turkana tribe of about 3,000 people is located nearby. These people have never been to school, never been able to read, write or do math. They speak only a tribal dialect, and they do not know the state language Swahili.rnrnLocal missionaries have been praying for a long time for the possibility of opening a school for these children of the desert. They prayed for a better future for the Turkana children because they know examples of how schooling can change the future of more than just one person.rn
The school principal also got her education thanks to the missionaries who came to their tribe and built the school?
rnThe school has a principal, her name is Faith. She herself was born 200 kilometers away from the current school, in the middle of the same desert, but there were missionaries who built a school in their tribe. After school, Faith went to college, then received a scholarship to study in England, where she received a master’s degree in finance and returned to Kenya, where she worked as a manager of a national bank. But recently she left Nairobi, quit her prestigious job, and moved to Lodwara (a town on the edge of the desert) to be closer to Turkana’s children.rn
As of 2024, Victoria School has 317 students,rn5 classes, 5 teachers, 5 teacher assistants, 1 security guard, 2 cooks, 1 director and 1 administrator.
rnVictoria School exists solely on donations. Because the locals don’t understand why they have to buy a notebook or a pen. They have lived without these things and this life is normal for them. We believe that the mentality of this people will change and they will realize more and more every year how important education is for children.rnrnChildren at school have two balanced meals a day. They receive the necessaryrn
-
- notebooks;
-
- books;
-
- pencils;
-
- uniforms.
The cost of maintaining one student per month is $25.rnJust $25 a month for a child to be able to read, write and count.rnrnGive an education to a child from Turkana.
